Hygienic XLI Presents: Mayfly 2020 @ Crocker House Ballroom | New London | Connecticut | United States

Hygienic XLI and Mayfly Playhouse present Mayfly 2020 on Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 PM in the Crocker House Ballroom, 35 Union Street, New London, CT – the 12th annual Mayfly event. $10 suggested donation at the door. Doors open at 7pm

It is called “Mayfly” because these plays are born, rehearsed, and performed within a 24-hour span, the life of a mayfly. Now in it’s twelfth year, Mayfly 2020 is a 24-hour-play-event where on Friday night six playwrights draw a random cast of actors and director, are given a set of rules, a prop, and before the sun rises they deliver a brand-new 10-minute play.

At 8:00 AM Saturday morning the scripts are distributed and the actors and directors go to rehearsal spaces throughout downtown New London. At 8:00 PM Saturday night these plays are performed at a one-night-only event in the Crocker House Ballroom in front of a capacity crowd.

and other Eric Carle favorites

Three beloved stories by Eric Carle, award-winning children’s book illustrator and author, are retold on stage through the magic of black light and fanciful puppets.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar as he eats his way through an amazing variety of foods on his path to becoming a beautiful butterfly.

High up in the sky, Little Cloud playfully transforms himself into various creatures, including a sheep, and an airplane, a shark and more.

The Mixed-Up Chameleon is bored with his life, sitting about predictably changing colour all day. Following an adventurous trip to the zoo, he attempts to emulate the beautiful animals he sees before coming to the conclusion that there is value in his own unique self.

Adapted, designed and directed by Jim Morrow, with music by Steven Naylor and narration by Gordon Pinsent, the hour-long production features the imaginative approach to storytelling through theatre that has earned international recognition for Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

Based on his childhood memories of working men and gangsters in the Italian-American neighborhood where he grew up, Chazz Palminteri originally wrote the script for the stage and performed it in Los Angeles where it became the hottest property in Hollywood since ROCKY. He moved the production to New York, where the stage version played to sold-out audiences for four months and earned him Outer Critics Circle Awards for both acting and writing. While in New York he completed the screenplay and soon found himself playing the role of Sonny on the big screen opposite Robert De Niro. See Chazz perform the original one-man show that made him a star. Chazz has more than 50 movies to his credit including The Usual Suspects, Bullets Over Broadway (Academy Award nomination), Analyze This, Hurlyburly, Mulholland Falls, and more.

“Cows that type? Hens on strike! Whoever heard of such a thing!” Farmer Brown cries.

When his granddaughter Jenny comes for a visit, Farmer Brown declares the farm a tech-free zone. He takes her laptop in the cold barn with the shivering cows who use her computer to type messages requesting blankets.

“No way,” replies Farmer Brown. “No blankets!”

So the cows go on strike and the chickens join them in solidarity. No blankets? No milk! No eggs!

Will Farmer Brown give in to the animals’ demands? Will Jenny get her computer back? Find out in a hilariously moving musical about negotiation and compromise, based on the Caldecott Honor Book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin.
