The story of Sports Illustrated magazine and that of fabled photographer Walter Iooss Jr. were woven together for most of the last 65 years. In fact, you could almost explore the whole history of modern sports through the camera lens of Iooss, who shot his first photo for the iconic magazine as a teenager. Even as media pivots toward new methods of recording history, there remains nothing more durable than the power and artistry of the still photograph – and by extension, the power of Iooss’s eye. Join us as former editor-in-chief Chris Stone, who worked at Sports Illustrated for 27 years, shares his personal stories about Iooss and the art of capturing those unforgettable moments in sports.
