The World According to Walter @ Lyman Allyn Art Museum Tickets
Dec 12 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

The story of Sports Illustrated magazine and that of fabled photographer Walter Iooss Jr. were woven together for most of the last 65 years. In fact, you could almost explore the whole history of modern sports through the camera lens of Iooss, who shot his first photo for the iconic magazine as a teenager. Even as media pivots toward new methods of recording history, there remains nothing more durable than the power and artistry of the still photograph – and by extension, the power of Iooss’s eye. Join us as former editor-in-chief Chris Stone, who worked at Sports Illustrated for 27 years, shares his personal stories about Iooss and the art of capturing those unforgettable moments in sports.

Felted Ornament Design Workshop @ Spectrum Art Gallery Tickets
Dec 14 @ 1:00 pm
Felted Ornament Design Workshop @ Spectrum Art Gallery | Essex | Connecticut | United States

This workshop will be a “needle felting” class for all levels. You will make a small 3-d felted ornament using the needle felting method, which is very gratifying and can be combined with the many other felting techniques. For this project you will use soft, colorful merino wool roving, special barbed needles yarn and embellishments. Workshop will begin with some simple brainstorming sketches. Then we will discuss the best shapes to form a foundation, choose a color palette and then learn the “ins and outs” of needle felting. The instructor will demonstrate different concepts so you will have lots of creative, exciting options. All materials are supplied but please bring a small sketch book or note pad and pencil.
